2018 sees the implementation of the main measures outlined in the VISIT- BIZI 2017-2021 Master Plan for Tourism in Donostia

San Sebastián Turismo & Convention Bureau is following the rhythm of the VISIT- BIZI 2017-2021 Master Plan for Tourism in Donostia, the main measures of which are already being put into place. A series of publications, campaigns and online content has been launched, all of which aims at promoting alternative areas of the city, out-of-season visits, the unique and authentic nature of the city as a destination and responsible tourism. The Town Hall is also following the actions proposed by the Master Plan, such as the Ordinance of Tourist Apartments and the organisation of public spaces.

In addition to all of this, a high-quality 360° Virtual Tour of the city has been created which includes neighbourhoods and cultural attractions that can be visited. This aims to ease concentration in the main areas and show visitors places which are outside of the traditional tourist trail.

The new content by San Sebastián Turismo & Convention Bureau - in terms of both the publications and the online information - is being reorganised to emphasise the value of the different neighbourhoods of the city, with the aim of easing concentration in the main areas, preventing the saturation of the usual destinations and distributing the flow of tourists across all of the different neighbourhoods of Donostia/San Sebastián. The new tourist guide, “Ongi Etorri”, and the accommodation brochure are both organised by neighbourhood, and online content has been created with interactive maps and itineraries, videos, 360° photographs and other resources which showcase different neighbourhoods of the city and suggest excursions that can be made in the region.

This includes the proposal of activities that can be undertaken throughout the year, thus promoting the city as a year-round destination. Agenda 2018 provides suggestions for every month of the year, and a guide to festivals that take place in almost every month of the year has also been published. The “Made in San Sebastian” shopping guide provides shopping routes that can be followed at any time of the year, in doing so supporting the unique and characteristic local businesses of the city.

Important publications include a ten-step guide to responsible tourism which aims to help visitors to embrace local customs in a respectful manner. It also encourages tourists to learn more about the Basque language and culture, to discover more hidden places, to take a responsible attitude to the environment, to use public transport, to support small businesses and local development and to be mindful of local residents at night.

The Town Hall is also following the measures outlined in the Master Plan and is moving forward with the Ordinance of Tourist Apartments, the organisation of public spaces, improvements to public transport and other initiatives.

“ONGI ETORRI” TOURIST GUIDE

“Ongi Etorri” is the official tourist guide to the city. This comprehensive guide can be acquired from tourist offices or downloaded from the San Sebastián Turismo & Convention Bureau website. In a new approach for this year, the structure of the guide has been reorganised, and suggested routes around every neighbourhood of the city have been included. A double page spread includes the essential information - recommending not only tourist facilities, but also activities and ideas for exploring the city outside of the usual tourist areas and gaining a deeper insight into the history, culture, architecture, shopping and cuisine of these areas. A “ten-step guide to responsible tourism” has also been included which encourages visitors to behave like “real Donostians”.

FASHION GUIDE: MADE IN SAN SEBASTIAN

This year, a “Made in San Sebastián” fashion guide has been created for the very first time. This guide aims to boost local commerce and promote the unique nature of the city as a destination, showing visitors iconic Donostian businesses including local companies, brands and designers, stylish multi-brand spaces with the unmistakeable “San Sebastián” stamp, and shops which have become references in the area due to their history and sense of tradition.

The guide includes 68 establishments which are affiliated with the San Sebastián Turismo & Convention Bureau (SST&CB) and with the Moda Donostia business cluster which has been driven by Fomento San Sebastián. The “Made in San Sebastián” guide is already available at SST&CB offices, in affiliated businesses, in trade fairs, international workshops and through the website www.sansebastianturismoa.eus/images/guia-moda-san-sebastian.pdf

DONOSTIA/SAN SEBASTIÁN: A CITY OF FESTIVALS

An additional pioneering publication has been drawn up which provides information about festivals taking place in the city. This aims to promote out-of-season visits by suggesting cultural activities that visitors can enjoy throughout the year, as well as positioning Donostia/San Sebastián as a quality cultural destination. The aim is to use the main festivals as a hook to spark visitors’ interest in other, smaller festivals.

AGENDA 2018

The annual agenda will also be updated to provide hints about the best cultural and leisure options throughout the entire 12 months of the year, which reinforces the strategy of promoting the city as a year-round destination.
