The aim is to contribute different opinions and experiences about the best use of travel intelligence in order to enable this to better serve people and to contribute to a more effective and sustainable development of destinations, their residents and their visitors.

Within the framework of the meeting of the Executive Council of the World Tourism Organization, the Office of the Deputy Mayor, through San Sebastián Turismo & Convention Bureau and in collaboration with the Basque Government's Department for Tourism, has organised a round table discussion to share views about the use of travel intelligence, a strategic management tool which converts big data into knowledge and information which can be used by destinations to anticipate the needs of residents and visitors and make improvements.

Under the title of “Travel Intelligence: Keys to Management and Innovation in Cities”, the meeting strives to discuss how travel intelligence can be used to provide a service to people and to contribute to the sustainable development of a destination. The aim is to contribute different perspectives and experiences about the best use of such management tools, which are based on the concept of intelligent understanding of data and the endless possibilities that their effective usage can offer to support a better common governance. In today’s times, successful management of tourism is essential to safeguarding the quality of life of a city and its people, and for this reason it is important to explore the opportunities that travel intelligence provides, not only for effective tourism management, but also for cities themselves.

The round table discussion will be presented by Alfredo Retortillo, Basque Government Councillor for Tourism, Commerce and Consumption, and will be moderated by Ernesto Gasco, the Deputy Mayor and the Councillor for Tourism for Donostia/San Sebastián. Participants in the discussion will include Ignacio Alcalde, Vice-President of the Fundación Metrópoli, Iris Córdoba, Managing Director of the Global Sports Innovation Center, Santi Camps, founder and CEO at Mabrian, the Digital Platform for Travel Intelligence and José Luis Wagner Salazar, Head of Tourism Competitiveness at the Agència Valenciana del Turisme.
