San Sebastián Turismo & Convention Bureau collaborates with the Tailored Spain DMC to bring a fam trip with US agents from the luxury sector to San Sebastián

San Sebastián Turismo & Convention Bureau and the Hotel Lasala Plaza have worked together to coordinate this trip with the Tailored Spain DMC. The trip sought to bring several professional agents from Virtuoso to Donostia/San Sebastián, Virtuoso being a network of the best travel agents working with cosmopolitan tourism, with over 17,500 consultants throughout the world. The aim of this fam trip was to provide information about our city so that it could be included in their portfolio of destinations.
The agents visited the city and the surrounding area on the 6, 7 and 8 November and the outcome was very positive, particularly with regard to the positioning of the city as a Premium Tourism destination.
Premium Tourism centres around clients who seek a maximum level of quality and comfort and excellent service, in addition to uniqueness and exclusivity. The concept of luxury has been evolving in the last decade and is no longer related to opulence, lavish decorations and top-of-the-range products. Today “luxury” also encompasses concepts relating to the following: Discretion and the protection of private life. Genuine experiences which provide clients with added value. Consistent availability of providers. Personalisation: programmes and activities which have been tailored to the specific needs of each visitor.
In order to protect the quality of life of Donostian people, it is important to be selective in the audiences that we seek to attract and the way in which we choose to position our destination. Our aim is to avoid the type of mass tourism that could have a negative impact on our city, and we are therefore working to encourage a more premium form of tourism which prioritises exclusivity, gastronomy and professional and cultural events. Premium Tourism is one of the 5 strategic priorities covered by the 2017- 2021 Master Plan for Tourism in Donostia.
